Happy Birthday, Gareth Thomas!
Gareth turns 40 today. This hot former rugger was one of the most capped Welsh rugby union players with 100 test match appearances. He is ranked 12th among international try scorers and he also played rugby league earning 4 caps for Wales. Gareth also played for the British and Irish lions in 2005 and was made captain after Brian O’Driscoll was injured in a match against New Zealand. He retired from rugby in 2011.
Among his accomplishments is Gareth’s coming out as a gay man in 2009. Coming out as gay can be a very difficult thing to do especially in the world of sports. Because of this, Gareth Thomas has become a hero to many gay men like myself and my friend giantsorcowboys.
What Gareth did showed the world that gays can play sports and that we should not have to hide who we really are. Therefore, this post is dedicated to him.
Well Said, Buddy!
